On 2 and 3 December, the Resilience Solutions and IDRA Albania project team, together with GIZ Kosovo representatives, conducted introductory visits to national institutions and the municipalities of Gjilan, Gjakova and Prizren to officially launch the joint work on municipal Disaster Risk Assessments and Disaster Risk Management Plans. These meetings mark the beginning of a structured and collaborative process that will support municipalities in strengthening their resilience to disasters and climate-related risks.
A core element of the initiative is the development of data-based risk assessments and evidence-informed risk management planning, which enable municipalities to better understand their exposure, vulnerabilities, and capacities. Reliable data and analytical tools play a crucial role in identifying priority areas for intervention, guiding investment decisions, and improving coordination across local and national levels. This approach ensures that prevention, preparedness and response measures are targeted, efficient, and aligned with real community needs.
This effort is part of the broader GIZ Kosovo programme supporting climate adaptation, resilience building and sustainable municipal development across the country. Through this collaboration, municipalities are empowered to adopt modern planning practices and enhance their long-term ability to anticipate and manage disaster risks.
